MadeWorn, the label founded by Blaine Halvorson, the founder of the label JunkFood Clothing, which is known for their funky graphic print t-shirts carried in department stores the likes of Bloomingdale’s, has recently settled into a new home at 731 N. Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. Los Angeles alone apparently won’t cut it for Halvorson though, because he already has plans to open an NYC store on the Lower East Side by this summer. While the Lower East Side neighborhood isn’t usually synonymous with fashion, Halvorson has found prime retail space in the area that is sure to bring the shopping traffic.

MadeWorn’s NYC location will be in Charlie Chaplin’s old theater a.k.a. the Clinton Star Theater, and also home to composer J. Ralph’s recording studio. For a man whose line boasts items with price tags of 12,000 dollars it’s to be expected that he wouldn’t settle for anything ordinary. While his line is sold at Maxwell and Barney’s New York, the rest of his retail business is by appointment only. Now if there’s one way to make your customer feel like they are getting something very exclusive it’s to make their shopping experience as personalized as possible.

Halvorson’s main focus right now is growing his women’s business. His women’s line includes everything from Japanese denim skirts to leather jackets. For Halvorson it’s all about finding a space that can really get the creative juices flowing. One of his bespoke showrooms is also a curio cabinet where taxidermy animals and antiques cohabitate. When you’ve got actors and musicians regularly stopping by your studio you need to give them something to be impressed by, and Halvorson has made sure that MadeWorn is certainly something impressive that will leave you wanting to come back.

His bohemian creativity will be a welcome addition to the NYC retail scene. While it is always tough competition in the NYC retail market Halvorson is already standing out above the pack with his one of a kind retail model. He should get his appointment book ready, because plenty of people will want to get their hands on MadeWorn.
