In an effort to fund a new project in apparel, Strongbody Apparel recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring a new jacket to life. Entitled the Gastown Jacket, the brand has been able to exceed it’s pledged goal by over 55K.

Quincy Samycia and Meghan Conyers, founders of the brand, started the campaign in order to expand the brand to a wider audience and also introduce the new versatile style. The campaign has approximately 650 backers with 63,415 dollars raised and only 13 days left to go. FashionUnited interviewed Samycia and Conyers more information on this over-achieving successful campaign.

What gave you the idea to launch the Kickstarter campaign?

Samycia: Basically we were looking to expand into the outerwear market and we just found a great way to kinda introduce the product to the masses. The great thing about when you do a Kickstarter is that you have a larger audience than you typically would as a smaller, brand. Its also nice too because you’re able to take essentially pre-orders for the jackets so you already have people lined up before you even produce the product.

What was the purpose of the Kickstarter?

Samycia: We’re expecting the project to be well over our target goal. We’re super excited and the feedback’s been really good.

What gave you the idea for the performance apparel, such as the Gastown Jacket?

Conyers: Basically Quincy and I both were really into fitness and it really is just part of our lifestyle, so it was kind of a natural evolution for us. We saw tons of companies doing it, but it wasn’t what we were really looking for, so we decided to do performance with a bit more of a stylish athleisure look. It has all the technology features you would expect, but more classic, clean lines instead of a fluorescent super brand. It’s just our lifestyle here-- we’re always out here hiking or walking our dogs.

Can you tell us some unique elements about the Gastown Jacket?

Conyers: For the jacket in particular; it’s waterproof, windproof, sleeves have four-way stretch, and four-lock stitching. The four-lock stitching is what performance apparel companies use for running gear so it’s not gonna rub on your or dig in or anything like that. For our regular line, we actually have an interesting no-stick technology. It’s also environmentally friendly. It’s basically made from a by-product from the fishing industry, they’re able to recycle them and dissolve them into a solution and make them into a fabric.

What is the price range?

We’re not trying to blow it out of the water with our retail price. We are thinking about potentially 199 in Canadian dollars.

Based in Vancouver, Strongbody apparel, has been known for its yoga and activewear performance clothing. The Gastown Jacket, along with other Strongbody apparel will be available on the brand's wesbsite after the campaign ends on December 6.
