Gucci and Dapper Dan debut first collection

Gucci and Dapper Dan have unveiled their first collaboration in the form of an eclectic line of ‘80s inspired wear.

Drawn from vintage New York street style, specifically in the neighborhood of Harlem, the pieces are graphics heavy - with embroidered dragons and the Italian company’s trademark green and red stripes. Among the notable items are tracksuits, bomber jackets and t-shirts. The line also offers gold chains with lion heads medallions and the faces of Greek gods.

"Taking inspiration from archive imagery from the '80s showing Dapper Dan's custom pieces, the gallery of pictures shot in and around the streets of Harlem New York have a similar street aesthetic to the original photographs," representatives from Gucci said in a press release from the brand. "Featuring young personalities from the neighborhood together with models wearing the ready-to-wear and accessories of the Gucci-Dapper Dan collection, the lookbook pays homage to the celebrated designer's heritage."

The statement continued, "The new collection is an extraordinary example of fashion sampling, and explores the synergy between the magpie design philosophies of both Dan and Michele (Creative Director at Gucci)."

To showcase the pieces, the brand has launched a campaign headed by photographer Ari Marcopoulos - inspired by the decade and featuring both models and regular city residents.

Initially available solely at the Gucci store on NY’s Wooster Street, the collection can now be purchased on Gucci.com.
