Louis Vuitton loses battle with Los Angeles bag company

Recently, French luxury house Louis Vuitton had tried suing a California-based bag company for ripping off its designs. The high-end bag manufacturer recently lost its legal battle in court, as its cased was just dismissed.
My Other Bag is known for its eco-conscious, sustainable tote bags. The company admits to “playfully parodying the designer bags we love,” with a sense of practicality. Apparently, Louis Vuitton found the parody less playful and more of an infringement.
Originally Louis Vuitton sued My Other Bag over “trademark dilution and copyright infringement,” according to Apparel News. This was dismissed in New York, while details were not disclosed on why. For the judges, it must have been unclear that My Other Bag’s designs were close to Louis Vuitton. According to the Los Angeles-based brand’s website, the bags are similar in pattern design and in color. However, the bags are mostly totes with handbag designs printed on them, which can arguably be seen as its own design, as the company does not manufacture luxury, leather goods.
