Turkish denim brand Mavi is teaming up with London-based fashion designer Hussein Chalayan on its first designer collaboration with a capsule line of women’s jeans that will launch in America in November, before rolling out across other international
markets next spring.The
Chalayan, who is of Turkish Cypriot heritage, has incorporated ribbons of bonded tape, elastic bands and black sport mesh panels into the jean designs, inspired by researching the human body, clothing and tools which optimise the power it uses.
Talking about the collaboration, Chalayan said: “I wanted to work with Mavi as they are known for the exceptional quality of their denim as well as for the excellent fit of their jeans. With my luxury background and passion for innovation, in this collaboration I was hoping to find new ways to shape and enhance the body with denim, through various techniques, to create an elegant and modern denim daywear collection.”
Ersin Akarlilar, global CEO for Mavi added: “Mavi is always looking for unique ways to push modernity and Chalayan is the perfect partner. He has a great eye for fit and is an incredible designer. Combining Mavi’s denim “know-how” and Chalayan’s design background, we were able to create a collection that elevates the brand.”
Mavi was founded in Istanbul in 1991 and became Turkey’s first fashion brand to become a global business and currently it operates 285 stores with flagship in New York, Vancouver, Montreal, Istanbul, Berlin, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf.
